Ever since late 2005, the ghostly stories and activities that have been happening at the old school house have been archived. Whether it be during the renovation stages at the school house or when it is opened up to be toured in September and October. This page is devoted to the abnormal encounters that guests and the construction crew have encountered.

(The below events are real and have been encountered by real people working with The Dent School House)

9-30-08

Several workers were cleaning up after a weekend of being open. A strange noise was heard in the basement. The noise would occur randomly throughout the times of 7:15-10:45. "It almost sounded like it was coming from behind the rock walls!"

8-31-08

The ghouls of The Dent Schoolhouse will have two tents down at the 2008 River Fest & WEBN Fireworks. Play "Bone Hole" for prizes, grab ghoulish discounts, and meet some of the cast all at the Dent Schoolhouse booth (on the Cincinnati side of the Ohio River).

7-27-08

Several workers were shocked as they opened the doors to the downstairs construction area. Everyones' tool were thrown on the floor and the cleaning equipment was moved to the top floor closet.

6-30-08

Lights began to flicker in strange patterns for approximately 30 minutes. Only certain rooms in the basement were affected by the strange power surge.

Over 300 people went to explore the schoolhouse for an exclusive summer view. "One of the best haunts I have ever seen." "This should be one of the top five haunts in the nation!" "The detail is just amazing!" "I was screaming the whole way through!" These are just some of the comments from the guests.

After heavy rains several shoes and toys were found unearthed at the far end of the schoolhouse.

4-18-08

3 different calls to the Dent Police were made from local residents about the sightings of a large diesel vehicle driving reckless though the lot of the schoolhouse. "It look as though it was a school bus... haha... weird right!" Strangely, no tire tracks were found in the lot.

2-25-08

An unmarked package arrived at the schoolhouse today. It contained old gym outfits from several students! No return address or names were left. The items will be on display in the school.

1-5-08

"I keep all the doors lock and wont go up alone!" Another worker has found used Sterno cans, half eaten food, and a broom handle outside of the school house. Local police and residents have not seen any strange people around the schoolhouse though.

12-27-07

"Some on is living in hear!" One worker shrieked as the renovation of the basement was under way. Several cans of Sterno (can fire) were found placed in the middle of the basement along with some food remains. The cans were fresh and one was just used.

A police call from 2 separate Greentownship residents claim to have heard a school bell ringing and strange lights flickering in the upstairs of the school.

After the first week of being open the schoolhouse made 1 person vomit and pass out before they entered, several lost control of their bodily functions, a handful passed out inside, many cried, and hundreds screamed!

9-14-07

A TV crew was filming in the basement bathroom of the schoolhouse when they began to hear music. The crew followed the sounds and found that a cd player had been turned on and was playing track 13 of a horror cd. "It's strange", said a worker. "No one else was in the house to flip the cd player on."

9-7-07

"The smell is back!" Several workers claimed to have caught a whiff of the decaying bodies of past students. "We call it the ghost smell." says one of the owners. "It just comes and goes... but its the kind of smell that you would never forget!"

9-1-07

A girls shoe was found stuck in the basement wall of the schoolhouse. Upon further investigation, the shoe belonged to a past student that was never found. Betsy Carver, age 13.

8-22-07

Local camera crew was at the old schoolhouse documenting its history and all of its rooms. Upon review of their tape they found that the basement video had strange breaks in time-code. "It was like periods of time didn't happen."

Another problem in the tape was in the portion of the basement to where Charlie was said to have slept. "All the audio went bad. It sounds like it is all coming from an old radio.The crew came back again to try a new mic and the same problem with recording in that area occurred.

7-19-07

"I swear that I heard it! It was old ballroom dancing music. It was coming from the auditorium!" One worker heard "old style" music that came from the school's auditorium.

6-12-07

Workers showed up to work on a maintenance project at the school. When they arrived the basement emergency door was wide open with one of the old chicken cages keeping it open. No one was there the day before and the cage was put in such a manner that kept people from getting in.

5-8-07

A strange smell was found to be coming from the old cafeteria of the school house. "It almost smelled like someone was cooking lunch." said one worker. Another worker said "...I think it was a vegetable soup and hamburgers." The smell was very potent for around 20 minutes. The smell "suddenly disappeared". The smell appeared at 4:32 pm when workers were just arriving to work.

While cleaning the basement of the school house, a worker came across a box wedged into the old rock walls. Inside were artifacts and old news articles about the school.

That same night another worker found a box of old play bills from when the school did theatre productions.

3-26-07

The Dent Police are called by a local resident. "They reportedly saw strange flashing lights coming from the top right window of the school house." No crew members were in the house at the time and the electrical department at the school has found no problems.

3-4-07

A local resident of Dent claims to have seen to small boys playing in the front of the school yard. The boys were wearing "period style clothing". The resident then said the boys "just disappeared into thin air."

2-10-07

A small construction crew was taking a break from working all night when the heard a knock on the other side the dry-wall. 20 minutes later (approx. 12:20 am) they heard two loud knocks on the same wall. The crew checked all the doors to make sure that no one could have entered the school un-detected. After officials did a sweep of all of the floors, no one was to be found. "I swear it sounded like someone was on the other side knocking." said one crew member. Another said, "It wasn't like something was falling off the wall or crawling around in the wall... it was a person knocking!"

1-26-07

A crew member was at the old school house alone working on some wood work. Later on he heard someone say "How you doing?". The crew member was shocked and left right away. "There was no one down there with me! It sounded like there were right there... plain as day."

Also, the same crew member admitted to hearing a whistling from inside the basement of the school house. This shocked some of the other crew members because they too have heard the mysterious whistling of a human from the "hells basement".

12-26-06

Two construction workers were cleaning up the first floor of the school house when they reportedly saw several books in the school's library "flying through the air." "It looked like they were being carried... it made us get the heck out of there." says one of the workers.

11-25-06

TASC Force, a local Paranormal Group investigated The Dent School House. Footage of the event and the findings will be posted as soon as it is available.

10-15-06

Three staff members were in the basement of the old school house when one began to smell a strong scent of perfume. The other two members also began to smell the sweet scent. After several minutes the scent disappeared. "The smell never rose above the height of a child."

The group of three also encountered the sound of footsteps throughout the 1st floor of the school at around 3:00 am.

10-7-06

After the last group toured the school house the staff went to the top floor to clean up. A small portion of the clean up crew went into the basement to clean up rooms just outside the rooms that were said to have been the Janitor's. While down there they noticed that the main lights were mysteriously out. They also heard a strange whistling coming from the boiler room of the school. Needless to say the spooked members got out of their in a hurry. The group blames the occurrence on Charlie... the Janitor.

10-6-06

While guests were touring the old school a worker in the cafeteria was "tugged on his shirt from the back." When he turned around there was no one to have poked him. After his story was told to the rest of the staff several members came forward with similar stories dealing with the mysterious "cafeteria ghost".

9-22-06

The Haunted House opens! A mother dropped off her two children at the haunt. When she came back to pick them up the one boy was crying and the other "was deathly silent." The boys told the local crew members that an old man threatened to kill them for littering in the basement. The old man was not found.

An employee was alone in the basement when his costume began to feel like it was getting "tugged on." "When I turned around... there was no one there."

9-12-06

The bathroom ghost seems to make its presence known to the employees of The Haunted House. Another account of someone having their shoulder touched while in the upstairs bathroom occurred tonight. That same employee spoke of a strange feeling he had when he was getting ready to go down the stairwell right after the occurrence. "It felt as if something was trying to push me down the steps!" .

9-7-06

The room that used to be the old Principal's room mysteriously locked while workers were walking through the halls. The hinges had to be removed so as to properly unlock the door. "The door had to of been locked by a skeleton key of some sort." says one crew member.

Security was watching the security cameras on a routine check. During their check they watched what the two call a "floating orb of light" that "flew around in front of the camera for a short period of time... and then floated off." They called the un-explained object a ghost. That same room has had a history of having a small fog or haze to occur in photographs taken in their.

8-31-06

As a worker was leaving the upstairs bathroom she had an hand touch her shoulder. When she looked behind her, no one was to be found. This has been the 5th occurrence to this date of someone being touched on the shoulder in that particular room.

8-12-06

A small group of workers went up to the haunt to perform "re-vamping" work on parts of the house. When they walked along the side of the house they were met with the discovery of an old yellow school bus. "The bus is in fair condition", said one of the workers. When the owners of the house were asked on the issue of the bus, they too were baffled as to where it came from.

8-4-06

The Dent Police Department were called to The Haunted House at 11:45PM. The security alarm had been tripped in 3 different parts of the house at the same time. When officials arrived none of the doors were open or tampered with. Of the three alarms, one was a motion detector. Nothing was around the motion detector at the time, nor was there anything to fall in its path. Some joke that it was the Janitor.

8-1-06

One crew member was walking the backstage hallway when a large bat "attacked" her. When other members of the haunt were alerted by her screams and arrived on the scene, the bat was no place to be found.

7-29-06

Several of the Haunted House crew members decided to try and spend the night at the building to see if anything would happen. While touring the basement with only flash lights, the group was shocked at the sound of a "man whistling from inside of the basement." After that, the crew "got no sleep for the whole night."

7-27-06

A large number of reports keep coming from the school's locker room. While cleaning up to go home for the night, one of the owners of the house reportedly heard a "loud crash." Upon his investigation nothing had fallen and nothing had been moved.

7-21-06

Southern Ohio Paranormal does a follow up investigation on The Haunted House. They report from their last investigation that they found "2 apparitions" on video tape. One was that of "a person peeking around the corner" of the backstage hallway. The other bit of video evidence was that of a man holding a push broom in the corner of one of the rooms under construction. The man with the broom was not of The Haunted House's staff nor the staff of the paranormal groups.

7-2-06

Several staff members came upon a mess in the Make-up department. A whole tray of make-up had been thrown on the ground. Some of the members are blaming ghosts for the disturbance. One staff member hypothesizes, "The spirits are mad that the investigators came into their home."

7-1-06

Southern Ohio Paranormal's investigated the house for possible hauntings. One member is quoted as saying, "I can tell you that this house is haunted for sure..." Their crew did temperature tests, EVP tests, and video taped. The results are coming soon!

6-17-06

While painting, a member of the construction crew was said to have heard strange banging noises from the basement. He also was overcome with a strong odor that he described as "the smell that something has been dead and rotting for a couple weeks."

6-13-06

A member of the sounds crew was working on mounting a speaker on the 1st floor when he heard loud "banging noises." "They were coming from the old school lockers that were in the far corner." said the crew member. "I figured someone was working on them... but the noises never stopped. So I decided to investigate... when I arrived at the hallway with the lockers the noises immediately stopped. The hairs on the back of my neck were on ends."

5-13-06

Three construction workers were working late in The Haunted House's basement when the radio they were listening to in the room over from their work station stopped working. When they went to switch to another station they could only receive one station on the AM frequency "that happened to be talking of hauntings in the Ohio area and ghosts in general."

5-9-06

Randal from the House of Doom paid a visit to the old school house to get a behind the scenes look of what was going on throughout The Haunted House. Upon arrival, however, the weather turned very dark and began to rain. Rumors are said that the ghost of the old Janitor was spotted in the house's basement. At approximately 11:25 PM the basement floors were said to have been slippery from that of someone mopping. The remaining crew said that "no one was mopping that night... it might have been the Janitor."

4-21-06

On a routine inspection of the back warehouse connected to the school house, 4 multi-colored, helium filled balloons were found tied to a note. The note was mentioning something of a "circus coming to town soon". "A bloody balloon for each child!" was the last line written on the note. The Haunted House Security Department has no idea as to how the note got there. Some are saying it is a cleaver prank, but the security censors were never tripped and all the doors were locked before the security crew checked the grounds. The security log showed no one of entering the building for over three days.

4-8-06

Four workers are said to have heard the sounds of "several children playing and laughing" on the first floor. The room that was said to have contained the laugher was actually that of the schools old pre-school.

4-4-06

A worker was said to have ran up to the first floor in hysteria. When calmed the workers on the 1st floor asked what the problem was, the worker said a whole in the basement's rock walls "had a stream of roaches crawling out of the whole" at him. Upon investigation, no roaches or insects were found.

3-2-06

Strange "banging" noises were heard in the basement of the building. Several workers went down to see what was making the loud noises. Once they reached the basement the sounds stopped and the stair well was said to have become very cold. "In the 10 years that I have worked here...I have never come across anything like that." said one worker.

While upstairs a worker was trying to open a room to store some boxes. Upon opening the door it was said to have "... pushed shut. Like someone was on the other side." The room being used as storage is said to have been the principals office.

2-20-06

While two workers were painting they began to hear scratching noises inside the walls of the principals office. Upon investigation, they removed the wood framing and found two bats that were living behind the walls. There is no explanation to how two full size bats got into the old walls of the Haunted House.

2-4-06

Random power panels of the house sporadically go off during renovation. Phone services were down for several hours as well. The Haunted House's electrician was called in and could find no reason for the panels to be failing. Cincinnati Bell could find no explanation for the disrupted phone service either.

1-28-06

A bat was seen flying around the first floor while a small work crew was trying to work on wall panels of the haunt at night. "We left the 1st floor for a bit and went into the basement to get a net to catch it...but when we got back up-stairs we could not find the bat."

1-25-06

12:39 AM-Power goes out throughout the whole Haunted House causing the security system and fire prevention system to go on the fritz. No other buildings on the block experienced a loss of power. Upon investigation by Cinergy Electric, no power lines to the haunt were damaged or loose. Still no explanation can be given to the power outage. The power resumed several hours later.

While renovating the basement The Haunted House crew found a hollow spot in the foundation of the building that contained old tools (several mops, assorted shovels, & a sledge hammer) and knives. This could possibly have been an old tool storage that was used by the janitors when it was a public school.

The security system in the haunt was tripped several times throughout the day. The Dent Police Department and our own security department have found no evidence of a possible entry. Recent snowfall did not show any footprints or tracks.
